November is National TMJ Awareness Month
As part of National TMJ Awareness Month, I am kicking it off and want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all my patients who have entrusted me with their TMJ care. Helping people find relief from the pain and challenges of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ/TMD) is a responsibility I don’t take lightly.
I’m Dr. Mike Gallagher, DDS, and for over 30 years it has been my privilege to offer care for patients suffering from TMJ in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, using the Bioesthetic Principles approach to restore healthy, lasting function to my patients’ chewing systems.
TMJ Disorders can cause a cascade of symptoms, including jaw pain, headaches, neck and shoulder discomfort, and sleep disturbances. These issues are often interconnected and impact many facets of life. I’m profoundly humbled to see the relief on patients’ faces when they regain comfort, function, and confidence. Over the years, I have witnessed first-hand how addressing the root of TMJ pain can give people their lives back.
A Hopeless TMJ Patient Is Now Pain Free:
Imagine feeling completing hopeless about your TMJ condition after seeing 12 medical practitioners and you are still unable to have pain relief from this terrible debilitating condition. Seems unimaginable, right? Well, it happened to one of my patients and I had the privilege of being the final practitioner that was able to help get him restored, pain free, and back to enjoying life again.
When I think of all the patient’s I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years, Glenn Bellman’s story in particular reminds me almost daily, as to why I became a Dentist and why I am so passionately focused on TMJ diagnosis and treatment to help people get their lives back.
This patient was able to experience an incredible transformation and after almost three years of unbearable pain, restricted breathing, difficulty swallowing, and tingling in the arms and torso, was finally able to find relief and return to living a normal, healthy life as a result of my TMJ treatment protocol.
The 12 medical practitioners my patient saw with no success, included a Periodontist, 2 Oral Surgeons, Endodontist, Chiropractor, Ear, Nose & Throat Doctor, Neurologist, A Facial Pain Specialist, Message Therapist, Acupuncturist, and a Hypnotist.

MAGO THERAPY:
The approach I offer for TMJ treatment is MAGO Therapy, which stands for Maxillary Anterior Guidance Orthotic, also called bite splint therapy. MAGO Therapy is non-invasive, highly precise, and backed by scientific evidence, making it a trusted treatment for managing TMJ/TMD pain. I am delighted to have seen the difference it can make, especially for patients who have struggled with traditional approaches to TMJ relief.
Here’s how MAGO Therapy works: it involves wearing a custom-fitted splint over your teeth. This splint gently separates the teeth, allowing the TMJ to shift naturally into a stable position. This realignment helps alleviate the muscle tension that often causes pain, allowing the muscles around the jaw to relax. Each week, patients come into my office for adjustments, ensuring the splint continually supports optimal positioning. Many patients report significant relief as their jaw stabilizes, and the regular check-ins allow us to make any necessary adjustments along the way. This commitment to ongoing care is key to successful treatment and long-lasting results.
In recent years, a cohort study involving MAGO Therapy proved its effectiveness, providing measurable relief in 11 out of 12 TMJ-related symptoms. The results were inspiring and validated the experiences of so many patients who have found relief with this approach. For me, seeing these positive outcomes only strengthens my commitment to this proven method and reinforces my gratitude to be part of each patient’s journey to wellness.
As I reflect on my career, I am deeply thankful for the trust my patients have placed in me. I approach each case with the belief that there is a solution, and my goal is to provide the gentlest, most effective path to relief. If you’re experiencing symptoms of TMJ/TMD and are looking for a minimally invasive option, please reach out. It would be my honor to help you find relief and improve your quality of life. Thank you to all who have allowed me to serve, and to all who may seek care in the future.
Are You Experiencing Symptoms of TMJ/TMD? Are you looking for biologic and holistic, minimally invasive TMJ treatment in Eden Prairie, MN or the surrounding areas?
