BioRejuvenation Dentistry

What is BioRejuvenation Dentistry?

The Biology of Your Smile

BioRejuvenation dentistry is a minimally-invasive, biology-based approach to dental treatment. Based on extensive scientific research and observation of the human chewing system, BioRejuvenation dentistry is a comprehensive process where:

  • Jaw joints are stable
  • Muscles are relaxed
  • Teeth are not worn down
  • Teeth fit correctly together

Patients who undergo BioRejuvenation dentistry enjoy:

  • Excellent esthetics
  • Improved function
  • Comfort/No head aches
  • Preservation of the natural teeth
  • Long-lasting dental health

Pain and dysfunction are alleviated and appearance is enhanced as a result of the process.

BioRejuvenation Dentistry is different than Cosmetic Dentistry.  While both can make beautiful looking teeth, BioRejuvenation Dentistry can make one look younger.  This is done by careful diagnosis and treatment of 3 things:

  1. Restoring the chewing system to its optional functioning position. This relaxes the jaw joint muscles to reduce stress on the joint.  This also causes other facial muscles to relax causing less visible facial stress.
  2. Correcting the relationship of the upper and lower teeth. This allows the teeth to contact so excess forces do not occur reducing or eliminating clenching and grinding.
  3. Giving the teeth ideal shape or form. This gives teeth the natural beauty that people want for cosmetic reasons but also allows the teeth to chew food better.

MAGO Therapy

If you have been diagnosed with an unstable bite/joint relationship that does include a dysfunction to your TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint), we can help.  We know that there is a direct correlation between the health of the joint and your occlusion (your bite, or the way the upper and lower teeth fit together). The key to stabilizing the joint and relaxing the inflamed muscles is to keep the teeth apart and to center the TMJ into its most stable position.  If this is not done the joint will continue to worsen over time.  Signs and symptoms of an unstable bite/joint are one or more of the following:

  • Headaches
  • Neck/shoulder pain
  • Facial muscle pain
  • Facial muscle tension
  • Earaches/pain
  • Tooth wear
  • Biting Sensitivity
  • Unexplained tooth or mouth pain
  • TMJ pain
  • Gum recession
  • Fractured teeth
  • Bone loss
  • Temperature Sensitivity

MAGO therapy is a proven and predictable way to stabilize the TMJ, or jaw joint.  The MAGO is an acrylic horseshoe shaped splint (looks like a night guard, but it is NOT A NIGHT GUARD.  The MAGO must be worn 24/7 to stabilize the TMJ.  It is best if you even wear it while eating.  It should only be removed to brush and floss.

MAGO Therapy allows us to stabilize the joint as we make calculated adjustments on the MAGO every week thereby allowing the TMJ to move into a healthy position.  Often our patients see a relief in discomfort within the first weeks of wearing a MAGO.  In many cases we achieve complete cessation of adverse and painful symptoms with MAGO Therapy.

While MAGO Therapy is therapeutic it is NOT a cure. MAGO therapy has been recommended for you because either your teeth or your TMJ have signs and symptoms indicating instability between the teeth and jaw joint.

The primary reason for MAGO Therapy is to stabilize the TMJ so that an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan can be made that will keep your jaw stable.  A secondary benefit to MAGO Therapy is that more often than not, the aforementioned symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated.  This commonly occurs and is very reassuring to the patient.  However, there can be other reasons in addition to your malocclusion causing the painful symptoms and so they might continue even though splint therapy is successful. Once the jaw is stable, usually after 4-12 weeks (although some cases take longer), a diagnosis can be made.  Not until then can a final treatment plan be made to keep the jaw stable and comfortable without full time use of the MAGO.

Treatment may include any one or a combination of the following:

  • Adjusting/reshaping teeth by selective polishing
  • Orthodontics:  traditional or Invisalign
  • Composite Bonding
  • Crowns/onlays
  • Veneers
  • Jaw surgery.  Not TMJ surgery

So the primary purpose of MAGO Therapy is to allow me to make an accurate diagnosis and establish a treatment plan to properly restore your bite so that you can avoid future breakdown and problems.  My goal is always to do the least amount of dentistry to return your oral system to health.
