MAGO Splint Therapy for TMJ Patients
TMJ Disorder can be challenging to live with. TMJ sufferers are often burdened with persistent pain and symptoms that disrupt their daily lives like sleeplessness, jaw locking, migraines, and dietary restrictions. If you’re searching for a long-term, minimally invasive solution to your TMJ symptoms in Eden Prairie, MAGO Therapy could be right for you.
I’m Dr. Mike Gallagher, DDS, a TMJ treatment Dentist in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. MAGO Therapy is a non-invasive, therapeutic method that I use to treat patients who suffer from TMD. Within just a few short weeks, many of my patients improve tremendously and no longer have to suffer from the same persistent jaw pain they’ve been burdened by for years. Below, I’ve discussed the benefits of MAGO Therapy in detail.
What Is a MAGO Splint?
MAGO stands for “Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic.” Maxillary refers to the upper jaw. Anterior means towards the front of the body. Therefore, a MAGO Splint is a device worn over the upper front teeth that works to guide the jaw into its proper position.
MAGO Splint Therapy: Treatment Process
Dentists like myself can use MAGO Therapy to accurately determine the proper alignment of the jaw joints in their resting position. This data allows me to calibrate an oral split that provides precise positioning for the jaw joints. Repositioning the jaw joints allows them to heal and helps the facial muscles relax. This, in turn, alleviates the patient’s TMJ pain and symptoms.
Treatment lasts about four to twelve weeks. First, you will visit my office for a TMJ assessment. Then, I will work to carefully fit a custom-designed orthotic device over your front teeth. During the following weeks, you will return to my office on a periodic basis so that I can measure your hinge axis and make adjustments to the device. These adjustments help to gradually move your jaw joints into a healthy position.
How Can MAGO Splint Therapy Benefit TMJ Patients?
I’ve been a dentist since 1987. Over the years, I’ve never seen a method more effective in treating TMJ/TMD than MAGO Therapy. Not only does it have a high rate of success but patients also enjoy benefits like:
• Fast relief: The device will help your jaw muscles relax. This will take away a good amount of the pain and inflammation. Most patients find that their symptoms subside within two to three weeks.
• A more accurate diagnosis: MAGO Therapy helps stabilize the jaw joints. The jaw joints must be stabilized before we can accurately determine the root cause of the patient’s pain and suffering.
• Better comfort: Patients do not have to undergo any surgery whatsoever and remain generally comfortable throughout the process.
• Scientifically-backed treatment: MAGO Therapy is the ONLY type of splint therapy that has been scientifically proven to be effective in treating TMJ symptoms.
• Optimal results: Precise positioning of the jaw joints for optimal results and lasting relief.
