Dr. Gallagher is incredibly caring and empathetic towards TMJ pain and his patients. He was the first doctor that ever even suggested my pain was more than just merely muscular. He recommended a CBCT and I am forever grateful.
The orthotic/splint … More he has made for many people has had roaring success. Unfortunately, and the reason why I have to give 3 stars which pains me, is that the device that was made didn't work for me. It was made to try to seat my condyles in the correct position, but my joint space was too inflamed to accept that. I found out later from a TMJ MRI that my discs are displaced and that my left joint is 25% smaller than my right which is the reason for the major offloading and pain on my right side. I need more serious intervention in the joint anatomy and how it relates to my skull.
A splint cannot un-stretch the ligaments that tie my discs to my condyle. I would maybe be more open to a splint that manages my current unstable jaw structure if I was older, but I am 28 and am looking for a more permanent solution since I have much life ahead of me. I want my discs back in place to prevent further osteoarthritis that I have. In theory, you don't just take a displaced knee meniscus and hold it in place with a splint... you put it back.... surgically. We need this same approach with the TMJs.
Gallagher's orthotic will work for many, but it didn't in my case. He did reach out to me after ceasing treatment to check in on me. A gentleman, truly. I have been to many many other dentists who didn't treat me nearly as well or take me as seriously as Dr. Gallagher.
My prayer is that there is more communication between the different schools of thought surrounding treatment of the TMJ amongst doctors and dentists all over the county. I've heard it can be tense in this field. I pray those tensions be let go and doctors find the upmost best treatment for their patients. God bless! -

I’ve seen both Dr Mike Gallagher and Dr Angela Marone and they’re both great! I completely trust them. Highly skilled and great at making you feel comfortable. I won’t go any where else. Suzy at the desk is awesome too.
