Committing to regular dental exams and cleanings is the best way for patients to maintain their oral health. Our office does individual assessments to determine your recare frequency. Regular dental exams include updating your health history, a visual oral cancer screening, done by both Dr. and hygiene, evaluation of the jaw joint, tooth wear, examining x-rays and evaluation for decay and discussing any concerns you may have.
During the exam the dentist and hygienist will also be evaluating and measuring the gum tissue in order to determine if you have periodontal disease.
A dental cleaning is the process of removing all of the tartar (the hardened plaque buildup) and plaque (the soft deposit) from your teeth. Plaque and tartar are full of living bacteria that contribute to periodontal disease and decay. During these appointments we take extreme care to make sure you are comfortable. Education is an important addition to the cleaning appointment. We strive to educate and inform patients on how to best care for their teeth and gums. After the appointment, we set up your next dental hygiene and exam appointment in an effort to help you stay committed to your cleaning interval.
